Join us for a hands-on experience in taxidermy and create your own mouseterpiece! In this class, students will learn the art of skinning and mounting their very own small mammal (choose from rat, chipmunk, or red squirrel). By the end of the session, each participant will leave with their own completed, mounted specimen made using professional techniques and materials.
Class Details: Location: Unless noted, all classes are at Grace and Grit Flowers at 37 Greenpoint Ave #402, in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, NY 11222 Class Size: Limited to 6 students for maximum personalized instruction Materials Provided: All necessary materials are included—specimen, anatomically correct foam mannequin, glass eyes, wood base, and more. Color of rat (white, gray, or hooded/gray and white mix) varies with availability. Additional Options: Glass domes for protecting your creation are available for purchase ($40-60). Props for anthropomorphizing your taxidermy will be provided free of charge, and students are welcome to bring their own props if desired.
Class Policies: Time Commitment: Please arrive on time. Late arrivals (15 minutes or more) will forfeit their seat, and no refunds or rescheduling will be offered for latecomers, no-shows, or anyone who has not properly rescheduled. Rescheduling: If you need to reschedule, there is a $50 fee if done 48 hours or more before class. See the “Reschedule a Class” option on our Class Sign-Up page for more details. Class Requirements: Students aged 13 and up are welcome. Anyone under 18 must be dropped off by a parent or guardian. All participants must work on their own project—no seat sharing or splitting of pieces. Only students are allowed in the studio during classes. BYOB: You may bring your own beverages to enjoy during class (BYOB). No food.
What to Expect: No Experience Needed: Whether you're a beginner or have some experience, this class is designed for all skill levels. No dangerous chemicals are used, and gloves will be provided for your safety. Respect for Animals: Rest assured, no animals are killed for the sake of taxidermy in this class. No Photography During Class: While photography, video, or audio recording is not allowed during the class, you may take photos of your finished work and the studio at the end of the session.
